San Diego takes loss despite strong efforts from Lara Saucedo and Mackenzie Nitzel

Recap: San Diego Cavers vs. Mira Mesa Marauders

The San Diego Cavers lost against the Mira Mesa Marauders back in February of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. San Diego took a 50-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of Mira Mesa.

Mackenzie Nitzel and Lara Saucedo certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Nitzel scored six points along with 19 rebounds, while Saucedo scored 12 points along with eight rebounds. Nitzel is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last seven games she's played.

Even though they lost, San Diego were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mira Mesa only pulled down eight offensive rebounds.

It was another big night for Ivorii Seals, who scored 17 points along with nine steals and eight rebounds for Mira Mesa. The match was Seals' 13th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Marianne Garong, who scored eight points.

San Diego now has a losing record at 7-8. As for Mira Mesa, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-9 record this season.

San Diego will head out on the road to face off against Lincoln at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Lincoln is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for Mira Mesa, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Point Loma at 6:15 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in California (Point Loma is ranked 545th, while Mira Mesa is ranked 561st).
