Softball Recap: Dougherty Triumphs

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Terrell Academy, Dougherty was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Turner County Titans a 12-0 shutout. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Trojans considering their two-run performance the match before.

Jalexi Thomas was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Thomas was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

In other batting news, Dougherty got a massive performance out of Jazlyn Turner, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with six stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Dariona Simmons, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with five stolen bases, three runs, and one double.

Dougherty always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .833. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Turner County only posted an OBP of .286.

The victory got Dougherty back to even at 1-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Dougherty will head out to take on Sumter County at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Turner County, they will venture away from home to square off against Mitchell County at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
