Basketball Recap: Leeanna Royer's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Williamsburg over Bishop Guilfoyle

If Williamsburg was feeling good fresh off their 67-29 takedown of Blacklick Valley last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The contest between the Williamsburg Blue Pirates and the Bishop Guilfoyle Marauders didn't end well, with the Williamsburg Blue Pirates falling 61-45. While losing is never fun, the Blue Pirates can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 96th, while the Marauders are ranked 21st).

Several Blue Pirates players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Leeanna Royer, who posted 14 points and eight boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Anastasia Ranalli, who had 12 points.

Even though they lost, Williamsburg smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in five consecutive matchups.

Williamsburg's loss dropped their record down to 20-5. As for Bishop Guilfoyle, they are on a roll lately: they've won 18 of their last 19 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-2 record this season.

Williamsburg does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Bishop Guilfoyle, they will challenge Bishop Carroll at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Bishop Carroll comes in on four and Bishop Guilfoyle on 14.
