Basketball Recap: Miyah Reed's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Lakeside over Stevenson

Lakeside was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They came up short against the Stevenson Pirates, falling 41-21. While losing is never fun, the Lancers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 973rd, while the Pirates are ranked 267th).

Lakeside's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Miyah Reed, who posted two points and 14 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Kiera Canchola, who put up four points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Lakeside smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Stevenson found their leader in freshman Kobie Crutcher, who went 9 of 18 on her way to 26 points along with six steals and five assists. Crutcher is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Grace Ishii, who had three points and three steals.

Lakeside's defeat dropped their record down to 5-7. As for Stevenson, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 9-1.

Lakeside didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 39-28 loss against La Quinta on the 28th. As for Stevenson, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 56-48 win against Coachella Valley on the 28th.
