Baseball Recap: Brooks Takes a Loss

Brooks dropped down to 6-12 on Sunday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Buckingham Browne & Nichols Knights by a score of 5-4. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Kyle Derderian and James Sullivan did some serious damage despite the final result: Derderian went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI, while Sullivan went 1-for-2 with one home run. Sullivan also put up a run, which was his first of the season.

As for Buckingham Browne & Nichols, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-9-1. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of one runs across that stretch.

On Buckingham Browne & Nichols' side, Matthew Griffin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on three hits and racked up 12 Ks. The Knights are 4-2 when Griffin allows three or fewer earned runs, but 4-7-1 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Skye Baharloo, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Brooks will take on rival Belmont Hill at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Buckingham Browne & Nichols is set to square off against their familiar foe Lawrence Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
