Basketball Recap: Laurel Comes Up Short

Laurel was the 54-27 winner over Slippery Rock when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Laurel Spartans lost 52-31 to the Slippery Rock Rockets on Saturday. The Spartans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Slippery Rock's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Gia Kovacik, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds. Cj Sabo was another key player, putting up 16 points in addition to six boards and three steals.

Laurel's defeat dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Slippery Rock, their win bumped their record up to 8-3.

Laurel didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 61-48 victory against Cathedral Prep on the 12th. Slippery Rock has also already played their next match, a 67-34 win against Sharon on the 13th.
