Baseball Game Preview: Pike County Pirates vs. Callaway Cavaliers

The Pike County Pirates will square off against the Callaway Cavaliers at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Pike County has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with five straight losses, while Callaway will come in with five straight wins.

Pike County might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 7-4 to Callaway, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.

For Callaway's part, Slade Hunt was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Hunt is becoming a predictor of Callaway's success: when he allows at most three hits the team is 4-1 (and 2-3 when he doesn't). Hunt was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Wesley Williams, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances. Callaway is undefeated when Williams posts two or more runs, but 3-4 otherwise. Jaxon Duncan was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Callaway pushed their record up to 6-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Pike County, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-10.
