Recap: Surprise Valley Hornets vs. Burney Raiders

The Surprise Valley Hornets's game on Thursday was all tied up 18-18 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 37-36 to Burney. Surprise Valley was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Burney apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played last Tuesday.

Despite the loss, Surprise Valley still got an impressive performance from Elizabeth Lopez-Rangel, who scored 17 points. That's the first time this season that Lopez-Rangel scored 15 or more points. Rylee Arreche was another key contributor, scoring six points.

Burney's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Alexis Witzel led the charge by scoring 17 points along with six rebounds and two blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Diana Gonzalez Green, who scored five points.

Surprise Valley bumped their record down to 6-5 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for Burney, their win bumped their record up to 4-7.

Surprise Valley will head out on the road to square off against Butte Valley at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Burney won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Portola at 5:00 p.m. on January 19th.
