Basketball Recap: Golden Valley Comes Up Short

Golden Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They took a hard 46-29 fall against the Merced Bears. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bears this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 66-55 back in January.

Merced found their leader in sophomore Averie Steverson, who dropped a double-double with 20 points and 12 boards. Steverson is becoming a predictor of Merced's success: when she posts at least eight rebounds the team is 12-6 (and 4-5 when she doesn't). Another player making a difference was Aliyah Solis, who posted eight points and four steals.

Golden Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 7-20. As for Merced, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-11 record this season.

As of now, neither Golden Valley nor Merced have any future games scheduled.
