Basketball Recap: Hoover Takes a Loss

Hoover managed to keep up with San Diego until halftime on Friday, but things quickly went downhill from there. The Hoover Cardinals came up short against the San Diego Cavers, falling 70-50. The Cardinals have struggled against the Cavers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

When it comes to explaining why Hoover lost, don't look at Jewel Parker. Despite the final result, she posted 23 points. Parker's evening made it seven games in a row in which she has scored at least 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Myesha Frank, who earned 13 points.

San Diego's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Marilyn Daniel led the charge by going 6-for-11 en route to 12 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals. Daniel is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Mackenzie Nitzel, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and 19 boards.

Hoover's defeat dropped their record down to 13-12. As for San Diego, they pushed their record up to 12-13 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home.

Hoover wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 53-36 loss against La Jolla on the 11th. As for San Diego, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 65-56 win against High Tech SD on the 13th.
