Football Game Preview: Los Lunas Tigers vs. Sandia Matadors

Los Lunas has gone a perfect 3-0 against Sandia recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Tigers will take on the Matadors at 11:00 a.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Saturday.

It was a proper cat-fight when Los Lunas challenged Atrisco Heritage Academy on Friday. The Tigers took their matchup with ease, bagging a 55-14 victory over the Jaguars. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Tigers.

Luke Cieremans had an outrageously good game as he threw for 258 yards and four TDs, and also rushed for 74 yards and one score on only seven carries. Those 258 passing yards gave him a new career-high.

Meanwhile, Sandia faced Albuquerque in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Matadors blew past the Bulldogs 38-14. The Matadors haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Los Lunas better keep an eye on Jahleel Lewis. He was instrumental in Sandia's win, rushing for 54 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while also throwing for 219 yards on 21 of 34 attempts. 107 of Lewis' passing yards were hauled in by Trey Foderaro.

Sandia didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Kaden Ingersoll and Israel Lopez. Lopez got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Los Lunas' victory bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Sandia, they picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 4-5.

Everything came up roses for Los Lunas against Sandia in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, as the squad secured a 44-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
