Basketball Recap: Ayden Cummings Key Part of Team Effort in Golden Tornadoes Win

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Fairmont ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They walked away with a 62-55 victory over the Purnell Swett Rams. The Golden Tornadoes have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Rams, too.

Fairmont's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ayden Cummings, who dropped a triple-double with 17 points, ten rebounds, and ten assists. Cummings is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed three or more in each of the last three games he's played dating back to last season. Xavion Pittman was another key player, dropping a double-double with 13 points and 16 boards.

Fairmont smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 25 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in December of 2024.

Several Rams players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jeremiah Barnes, who posted 14 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Kaleb Locklear, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and ten boards.

The win got Fairmont back to even at 1-1.

Fairmont has already played their next contest, a 77-48 loss against Lumberton on the 21st. As for Purnell Swett, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 79-48 defeat against North Brunswick on the 21st.
