Softball Recap: St. Michael the Archangel Triumphs

St. Michael the Archangel's game on Wednesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They came out on top against the Sherwood Marksmen by a score of 5-1. While the Guardians didn't have the best season last year (they finished 12-19), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Sophie Young spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Samantha Dorsch, who went 3-for-4 with six stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those six stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Lyla Ventimiglia was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

St. Michael the Archangel's record is now 5-2. As for Sherwood, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Michael the Archangel will challenge Knob Noster at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Sherwood, they are packing up and heading out for their first away game of the season: they will challenge Odessa at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
