Baseball Game Preview: Cairo Syrupmakers vs. Peach County Trojans

The Cairo Syrupmakers are taking a road trip to square off against the Peach County Trojans at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Cairo sitting on three straight wins and Peach County on 13.

Cairo's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 16-0 margin over Monroe. That looming 16-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Syrupmakers yet this season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Peach County). They put the hurt on Baldwin with a sharp 29-0 victory on Saturday. Considering the Trojans have won 15 contests by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Scout Willingham made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one hit in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. Those six RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Xavion Childs was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-1. Nick Hardee was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.

Peach County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .739. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Baldwin only posted an OBP of .182.

Peach County's win was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 18-2. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.2 runs over those games. As for Cairo, their record now sits at 8-6.
