Soccer Recap: Cupertino Takes a Loss

Cupertino managed to keep up with Fremont until halftime on Thursday, but things quickly went downhill from there. The Cupertino Pioneers lost 4-0 to the Fremont Firebirds. The shutout was out of character for the Pioneers seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in January.

This is the second loss in a row for Cupertino and nudges their season record down to 11-8. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 13-2 Saratoga (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 85% over those games). As for Fremont, the win (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 15-3.

Looking ahead, Cupertino will be playing at home against Milpitas at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Milpitas' last three matches have been decided by no more than a goal, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Fremont, they will venture away from home to square off against Saratoga at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Saratoga has won seven straight at home, while Fremont won eight straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
