Football Recap: Kenton Wildcats vs. Van Wert Cougars

Kenton extended their losing streak to seven on Friday, dropping them down to 1-9. They were dealt a 52-18 loss at the hands of the Van Wert Cougars. The Wildcats lost against the Cougars in their previous head to head back in October of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 45-44 score last time.

Despite the loss, Kenton still got an impressive performance from Zayne Perkins, who picked up 112 receiving yards and one touchdown, and also threw for 41 yards and one TD. Perkins' receiving production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 112 receiving yards. Amiel Huff also helped out with an impressive 85 receiving yards.

As for Van Wert, the win got them back to even at 5-5. Their offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Van Wert was led to victory by Xavier Kelly and Zach Crummey. Kelly gained 192 total yards and four touchdowns, while Crummey threw for 371 yards and four TDs while completing 76.3% of his passes. Crummey's passing game has become a key predictor of the Cougars' success: the team is 4-1 when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 1-4 otherwise. Micah Cowan was Crummey's top target, picking up 105 receiving yards and a pair of scores.
