Basketball Game Preview: Maxwell Panthers vs. Portola Tigers

Maxwell is 0-10 against Portola since February of 2015 but things could change on Tuesday. A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Maxwell Panthers face off against the Portola Tigers at 5:00 p.m.

Maxwell is headed into the match out to prove that what happened against Biggs on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Maxwell was beaten by Biggs 53-21. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1282nd, while the Wolverines are ranked 430th).

Despite their defeat, Maxwell saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Bethany Wilson, who posted seven points, was perhaps the best of all.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Portola, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Hamilton on Thursday as Portola made off with a 45-23 victory. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Tigers as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Portola's victory bumped their record up to 11-9. As for Maxwell, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-15.

Maxwell was dealt a bruising 73-19 loss at the hands of Portola in their previous meeting back in January of 2020. Thankfully for Maxwell, Margaret Canseco (who put up 23 points) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
