Softball Recap: Northside Drops Highest Score of Season Against Howard

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Northside). Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Howard Huskies a 23-0 shutout on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won eight games by eight runs or more so far this season.

Ava Betancourt looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on E'Vejia Burgman, who went 3-for-4 with seven RBI, four runs, and two triples. Those two triples gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kadence Cooley, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.

Northside was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .517. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Northside pushed their record up to 8-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Howard, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Looking ahead, Northside will be playing in front of their home fans against Thomas County Central at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Howard, they will venture away from home to challenge Warner Robins at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Demons will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
