Basketball Recap: Chico's Higher State Rank on Full Display on Friday

Chico won the last time they faced Rocklin and things went their way on Friday too. The Panthers came out on top against the Thunder by a score of 63-51. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 60th, while the Thunder are ranked 211th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Kayleigh Solano produced another solid effort shooting 44% from the field to rack up 27 points in addition to seven boards and three steals. Another player making a difference was Josie Murphy, who posted 11 points.

Chico was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive games.

Chico's record now sits at 7-2. As for Rocklin, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season.

Chico and Pleasant Grove will face off at 10:30 p.m. on Saturday without much rest, having both just played. As for Rocklin, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Rio Linda at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
