Basketball Recap: Victor Valley Comes Up Short

Victor Valley played a tough match on Wednesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 63-32 defeat at the hands of the Silverado Hawks. The Jackrabbits have struggled against the Hawks recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.

Victor Valley's loss came despite strong showings from Eden Roberts and Arnetta Ealy Newton. Roberts posted 12 points, while Ealy Newton had nine points and five boards. Ealy Newton is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. Kimora Love was another key player, putting up seven points.

Silverado found their leader in freshman Alohilani Atimua, who went 9 for 14 en route to 18 points in addition to eight rebounds and five steals. Those 18 points gave Atimua a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kyasia Green, who earned 15 points along with seven boards and three steals.

Victor Valley's loss dropped their record down to 12-11. As for Silverado, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-9.

Victor Valley and Silverado's offenses will be put to the test in their next games. Victor Valley and Western Christian (who has only given up 26.84 points per game) will meet at 7:00 p.m. on February 13th. Victor Valley is looking to tack on another W to their five-game streak on the road. Similarly, Silverado will take on La Quinta at 7:00 p.m. on February 13th, a team that's only allowed 26.36 points per game.
