Soccer Recap: Mountain View's Higher State Rank on Full Display on Saturday

On Saturday, the Mountain View Spartans were able to grind out a solid victory over the Hollister Haybalers, taking the game 3-1. Given the Spartans' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 94th, while the Haybalers are ranked 211th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Mountain View hit Hollister with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Sydney Johnson, Alex Markova, and Charlotte Higgins.

Mountain View pushed their record up to 5-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 15 goals over those three contests. As for Hollister, their loss dropped their record down to 4-2.

Mountain View will challenge Aptos at 10:00 a.m. on December 31st. Mountain View's defense has only allowed 0.5 goals per game this season, so Aptos' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Hollister, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Watsonville at 5:45 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
