Basketball Game Preview: Villa Park Spartans vs. El Dorado Golden Hawks

Villa Park hasn't had much luck against El Dorado recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Villa Park Spartans will challenge the El Dorado Golden Hawks at 10:30 a.m. Villa Park is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last five games.

Villa Park is headed into the game after thoroughly thrashing Yorba Linda: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Villa Park blew Yorba Linda out of the water with a 58-31 final score. The Spartans have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine contests by 21 points or more this season.

It was another big night for Bailey Roczey, who posted ten points along with five rebounds and five steals. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Madelyn Martinez, who scored 12 points and five boards.

Meanwhile, El Dorado unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Friday. They took a hard 44-30 fall against Crean Lutheran. The Golden Hawks were down 37-17 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Villa Park pushed their record up to 20-4 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 25.0 points per game. As for El Dorado, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-8.

Villa Park came up short against El Dorado in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, falling 33-27. Can Villa Park avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
