Basketball Recap: Victoria Eufracio's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Arleta over Burroughs

Arleta's tournament run continued when they took on Burroughs on Tuesday. The Arleta Mustangs took a 54-35 bruising from the Burroughs Bears. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 325th, while the Bears are ranked 132nd).

Arleta lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Victoria Eufracio, who posted five points in addition to nine boards and four blocks. The dominant performance gave Eufracio a new career-high in blocks. Another player making a difference was Tatiana Hernandez, who put up seven points.

Even though they lost, Arleta smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in 18 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Jessica Mena was the offensive standout of the game as she went 5 of 7 on her way to 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mariam Fahs, who had ten points and eight rebounds.

Arleta has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-5 record this season. As for Burroughs, their win bumped their record up to 9-6.

Arleta didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 51-38 defeat against George Washington Prep on the 2nd. As for Burroughs, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 48-21 victory against Lakeview Charter on the 2nd.
