Basketball Recap: Academy for Academic Excellence Takes a Loss

After flying high against Big Bear last Friday, Academy for Academic Excellence came back down to earth. The Academy for Academic Excellence Knights lost 53-32 to the Silver Valley Trojans on Wednesday. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Knights this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 47-34 back in December of 2024.

Silver Valley found their leader in freshman Naomi Durrah, who went 16 of 37 en route to 33 points in addition to seven steals and five boards. That makes it 15 consecutive games in which Durrah has scored at least a third of Silver Valley's points. Another player making a difference was Lyric White, who posted eight points along with nine rebounds and five steals.

With the defeat, Academy for Academic Excellence broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 6-9. As for Silver Valley, their victory was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Academy for Academic Excellence has already played their next matchup (against Riverside Prep), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Silver Valley will take on Big Bear at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Silver Valley is facing Big Bear at the right time seeing as Big Bear is stuck on a ten-game losing streak.
