Basketball Preview: Torrey Pines Falcons vs. Oceanside Pirates

Torrey Pines has enjoyed the comforts of home their last five games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will square off against the Oceanside Pirates at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Torrey Pines focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up five on Friday.

Last Friday, Torrey Pines didn't have too much trouble with the Bobcats at home as they won 59-41. Torrey Pines pushed the score to 50-30 by the end of the third, a deficit the Bobcats cut but never quite recovered from.

Lily Oliva and Zoe Lau were among the main playmakers for Torrey Pines as the former scored eight points along with seven rebounds and five assists and the latter scored 13 points along with seven assists and two steals. Oliva hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Sienna Barry, who scored eight points along with two blocks.

Even though Oceanside has not done well against the Mavericks recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Oceanside came out on top against the Mavericks by a score of 45-38.

Martina Griffin and Aubrey Madden were among the main playmakers for Oceanside as the former dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds and the latter shot 4-for-6 from downtown and dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Madden has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Aliyah Samad, who scored five points along with seven rebounds.

Torrey Pines is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a massive bump to their 14-12 record this season. Oceanside's record now sits at 16-7.

This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Torrey Pines have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 27.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Oceanside struggles in that department as they've been averaging 38.1 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

Torrey Pines beat the Pirates 47-36 in their previous meeting two weeks ago. The rematch might be a little tougher for Torrey Pines since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
