Preview: Marysville Indians vs. Center Cougars

After three games on the road, Marysville is heading back home. They will take on the Center Cougars at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Marysville's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four games.

In what's become a running theme this season, Marysville gave their fans yet another huge victory on Wednesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Sutter 68-39 on the road. Given Marysville's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 208th, while Sutter is ranked 617th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Marysville found their leader in underclassman Abigail Pietz, who dropped a triple-double on 15 points, ten rebounds, and ten assists. Pietz is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Krystal Briggs was another key contributor, scoring 19 points along with five rebounds.

Meanwhile, Center struggled with threes on Friday (Wheatland had five more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Center took a 38-34 hit to the loss column at the hands of Wheatland.

Despite the loss, Center got a solid performance out of Miessah Sagun, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Madison Shirley Boudreaux, who scored four points along with 11 rebounds.

Marysville is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season. As for Center, their loss dropped their record down to 9-12.

This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Marysville have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 39.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Center struggles in that department as they've been averaging 32.6 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

Everything came up roses for Marysville against Center when the teams last played on January 5th as the team secured a 62-8 win. With Marysville ahead 37-5 at the half, the game was all but over already.
