Recap: Kennedy Thunderbirds vs. Chavez Titans
The Kennedy Thunderbirds's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their sixth straight defeat. They took a 48-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of Chavez. Kennedy has not had much luck with Chavez recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.
Kennedy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kayleen Maes, who scored 21 points along with six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Valeria Payan-Medina, who scored seven points along with 12 rebounds and two steals.
Hannah Diaz was her usual excellent self, scoring 26 points for Chavez. Diaz continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Chloe Lopez, who scored six points.
Kennedy has been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last ten contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-18 record this season. As for Chavez, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-9.
Kennedy will head out on the road to challenge Foothill at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Kennedy is coming into the game with six straight losses on the road, meaning Foothill will have to defend against a team hungry for a win. As for Chavez, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Farmersville at 6:00 p.m. Farmersville will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Chavez surely won't give up without a fight.
