Recap: Wheatland Pirates vs. Pierce Bears
The Wheatland Pirates were the 53-46 winner over the Pierce Bears when they last played one another back in December of 2019, but their luck changed this time around. Wheatland suffered a rough 43-23 defeat at the hands of Pierce on Monday.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Wheatland struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Leading Pierce to victory were Destany Martinez and Magali Jauregui. Martinez scored 13 points along with eight rebounds, while Jauregui scored 17 points along with five steals. The contest was Jauregui's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Letzy Ambriz, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds.
Wheatland's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Pierce, they pushed their record up to 2-2 with that victory, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wheatland won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Gridley at 7:00 p.m. on December 5th. Hopefully Gridley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Saturday. As for Pierce, they will head out on the road to face off against Durham at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
