Basketball Recap: Marquez Victorious

Marquez lost to South East back in November of 2022, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Saturday. The Marquez Gladiators came out on top against the South East Jaguars by a score of 42-34.

Marquez had a senior duo take command as Magaly Gonzalez dropped a double-double on 18 points and 13 boards and Corshell Vaughn almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 15 boards. Vaughn has been hot for a while, having posted 11 or more boards the last 29 times she's played. Samantha Larios was another key player, putting up six points and 13 rebounds.

The victory got Marquez back to even at 7-7. As for South East, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Marquez will venture away from home to square off against Maywood Academy at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. Maywood Academy's defense has only allowed 27.5 points per game this season, so Marquez's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for South East, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the South East Jaguars challenge the Legacy Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
