Soccer Game Preview: Monte Vista Christian vs. Pajaro Valley

Monte Vista Christian and Pajaro Valley are an even 4-4-2 against one another since February of 2018, but likely not for long. The Monte Vista Christian Mustangs will square off against the Pajaro Valley Grizzlies at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Monte Vista Christian's offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for three straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.

Monte Vista Christian is likely headed into the match with a focus on the second half, which is when things went downhill against North Monterey County on Friday. Monte Vista Christian came up short against North Monterey County, falling 4-0. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 721st, while the Condors are ranked 314th).

Meanwhile, after a string of 13 wins, Pajaro Valley's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They and North Monterey County finished up their game with a 3-3 draw. The result kept the Grizzlies happy, as they haven't lost a game since December 4, 2024.

Valeria Acosta and Jocelyn Juarez scored all three of Pajaro Valley's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 37 goals.

Pajaro Valley's draw makes their record 14-1-1 this season. As for Monte Vista Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 4-7-3.

Monte Vista Christian might still be hurting after the 5-2 defeat they got from Pajaro Valley in their previous meeting on January 8th. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Monte Vista Christian was down 4-0.
