Baseball Recap: Grovetown Drops Highest Score of Season Against South Gwinnett

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Grovetown). They were the clear victor by an 11-5 margin over the South Gwinnett Comets on Friday. The Warriors haven't had any issues with the Comets recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Brodie Combs made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off two hits (and only one walk). Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.

In other batting news, Grovetown let Jack Powell and Landon Robert run wild. Powell scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Robert scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. That's the most runs Powell has posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Boston Rowan, who scored two runs while going 1-for-4.

Grovetown's win bumped their record up to 6-7. As for South Gwinnett, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Grovetown will venture away from home to square off against Archer at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Archer's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Grovetown's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for South Gwinnett, they will head out to face off against Grayson at 5:45 p.m. on Monday. South Gwinnett has given up an average of 10.8 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
