Recap: Hoover Cardinals vs. Otay Ranch Mustangs
After flying high against the Mission Bay Buccaneers last Saturday, the Hoover Cardinals came back down to earth. Hoover fell 44-37 to Otay Ranch on Tuesday. Hoover found out winning isn't easy when you don't work as a unit and rack up nine fewer assists than your opponent.
Despite the defeat, Hoover had strong showings from Myesha Frank, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds and four steals, and Jewel Parker, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Parker is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Hser Ku, who scored three points along with five rebounds.
Otay Ranch's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mackenzie Daffron, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 14 rebounds. Daffron hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Maleah Porch was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on ten points and 13 rebounds.
Hoover's loss dropped their record down to 11-11. As for Otay Ranch, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season.
Hoover will be playing in front of their home fans against La Jolla at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully La Jolla focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 28 last Friday. As for Otay Ranch, they will head out on the road to square off against San Ysidro at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. San Ysidro comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last six games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
