Preview: Westview Wolverines vs. Del Norte Nighthawks

The Westview Wolverines's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Del Norte Nighthawks at 5:30 p.m. on February 9th. One thing working in Westview's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four matches.

On Wednesday, Westview got the win against Rancho Bernardo by a conclusive 63-41.

Del Norte has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 71-49 walloping at the hands of Mission Hills on Wednesday. While losing is never fun, Del Norte can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 102nd, while Mission Hills is ranked 15th).

The losing side was boosted by Bailey Barnhard, who dropped a double-double on 28 points and 17 rebounds. That was a full 57.1% of Del Norte's points, marking the seventh time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.

Westview pushed their record up to 17-10 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.3 points per game. As for Del Norte, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 18-8 record this season.

Westview couldn't quite finish off Del Norte when the teams last played back in January and fell 49-46. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Barnhard, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. Now that Westview knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
