Baseball Game Preview: Rootstown Rovers vs. Waterloo Vikings

The Rootstown Rovers will head out to challenge the Waterloo Vikings at 11:00 p.m. on Saturday. Rootstown's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Waterloo's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Rootstown took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Southeast, sneaking past 5-4.

Meanwhile, Waterloo lost 15-2 to Southeast on Thursday. The Vikings have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Rootstown pushed their record up to 8-10 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Waterloo, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-13.

Everything went Rootstown's way against Waterloo in their previous matchup back in May of 2025, as Rootstown made off with an 8-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rovers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
