League recap: Paynesville tops Melrose to extend winning streak

Paynesville extended the longest winning streak in West Central this week by beating Melrose, 32-0. The victory was the sixth in a row for the Bulldogs.

Benson lost to Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City 36-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Mitchell Koosman ran for 12 yards in the defeat.

Scott Gonnermon's team's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. On the ground Koosman contributed 12 yards.

Taner Gimberlin made the biggest impact on defense this week as Benson fell to the Falcons. He nabbed 1 interception.

Koosman was a passing and rushing force as Benson lost to Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City.

Koosman was the best running back in the league this week.

Aaron Ahrndt has thrown for 461 yards and 3 touchdowns this season, while Ryan Hampton has 17 catches for 224 yards. Ahrndt also leads the league in rushing with 366 yards.

The top two teams in West Central will face off this week when first place Paynesville takes on second place Sauk Centre. Last week, Paynesville topped the Dutchmen, while Sauk Centre fell to Minnewaska Area.

B O L D led the league in scoring this week after putting up 41 points on Yellow Medicine East.
