Basketball Recap: Austin Comes Up Short

After flying high against Smethport last Friday, Austin came back down to earth. The Austin Panthers took a 42-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Coudersport Falcons. The Panthers were not able to make up for their loss to the Falcons from their previous meeting back in February of 2024.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Coudersport to victory, but perhaps none more so than Olivia Fink, who went 7 of 10 en route to 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Macie Popchak, who posted seven points and 11 rebounds.

Austin's defeat was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Coudersport, they now have a winning record of 5-4.

Austin and Coudersport could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings. Austin (ranked 330th) will meet Port Allegany (ranked 71st) at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Coudersport (ranked 293rd) will meet Otto-Eldred (ranked 141st) at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
