Softball Game Preview: Lowndes Vikings vs. Thomasville Bulldogs

The Lowndes Vikings will square off against the Thomasville Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Lowndes has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with six straight losses, while Thomasville will come in with four straight wins.

On Thursday, Lowndes didn't have quite enough to beat Colquitt County and fell 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Vikings have suffered against the Packers since September 21, 2023.

Meanwhile, Thomasville's rock-solid pitcher showed up for the team's fourth consecutive shutout on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Fitzgerald an 18-0 shutout. Considering the Bulldogs have won 11 games by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Ava Simpson made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cece Myers, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and four runs. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in stolen bases (two). Avery Hurst was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.

Lowndes' loss dropped their record down to 5-20. As for Thomasville, their victory bumped their record up to 17-7.
