Roxana is 2-8 against Carlinville since April of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Shells will look to defend their home field against the Cavaliers at 4:30 p.m. Roxana's pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so Carlinville's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Things were looking good for Roxana after they put the first run on the board on Saturday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Triad by a score of 5-4.
Roxana handed starting duties to Bradley Herrin, who gave a strong showing despite the result: he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up four earned runs off eight hits.
On the hitting side, Max Autery made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double.
Meanwhile, two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Carlinville walked away with it. They walked away with an 8-5 win over the Hilltoppers on Monday. That's two games straight that the Cavaliers have won by exactly three runs.
Noah Convery made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). He has become a key player for Carlinville: the team is 3-1 when he allows at most two hits, but 5-15 otherwise. Convery was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2025.
In other pitching news, Gus Gibbs looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Back at the plate, Colin McKinney was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2025.
Carlinville's victory ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-16. As for Roxana, their defeat dropped their record down to 22-8.
Roxana got the 'W' when the teams last played back in April of 2024 against Carlinville by a conclusive 13-1 score. Will the Shells repeat their success, or do the Cavaliers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
