Basketball Game Preview: Justin-Siena Braves vs. Moreau Catholic Mariners

Justin-Siena is on a ten-game streak of home wins, while Moreau Catholic is on a seven-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Justin-Siena Braves will host the Moreau Catholic Mariners at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Justin-Siena is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.6 points per game this season.

Justin-Siena is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They put the hurt on Pinole Valley with a sharp 58-36 win. Given the Braves' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 63rd, while the Spartans are ranked 204th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Justin-Siena's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Dylan Zapolski, who en route to 16 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals. Zapolski continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Lauren KELLER, who on her way to 19 points.

Meanwhile, Moreau Catholic was able to grind out a solid victory over McKinleyville on Saturday, taking the game 34-27.

Justin-Siena better focus on containing Ava Bowens and Elisa Ortega as the pair were huge in Moreau Catholic's win. Bowens posted nine points along with seven boards and three blocks, while Ortega had 15 points and four steals. That's the most steals Ortega has posted since back in December of 2024. Kaliya Kirkwood was another key player, putting up four points.

Moreau Catholic is on a roll lately: they've won 16 of their last 18 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.8 points over those games. Justin-Siena's win bumped their record up to 26-2.
