Baseball Game Preview: Calvary Christian Knights vs. Russell County Warriors

The Calvary Christian Knights will challenge the Russell County Warriors at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Calvary Christian's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They came out on top against Pike Road by a score of 3-0. The win was some much needed relief for the Knights as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Braxton Wilkinson tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits over six innings pitched.

On the hitting side, Calvary Christian let Cam Houston and Tripp Ellison run wild. Houston scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Ellison scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave Ellison a new career-high. Bryson Brooks also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Russell County narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past St. Anne-Pacelli 3-2.

Colton Armstrong was excellent, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two RBI and one double. Carlos Murray was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Russell County's win bumped their record up to 3-5. As for Calvary Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 2-3.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Calvary Christian has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Russell County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.6 strikeouts.
