Recap: St. Bernard's Crusaders vs. Ferndale Wildcats
In what's become a running theme this season, the St. Bernard's Crusaders gave their fans yet another huge victory on Thursday. They took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 64-30 victory over Ferndale. Given St. Bernard's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 84th, while Ferndale is ranked 386th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading St. Bernard's to victory were Madelyn Shanahan and Laila Florvilus. Shanahan scored 15 points, while Florvilus scored 19 points. Florvilus has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last eight times she's played.
Despite the defeat, Ferndale saw an underclassman step up: Michaela Ellsmore scored 11 points.
St. Bernard's has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 games, which provided a nice bump to their 21-3 record this season. As for Ferndale, their loss dropped their record down to 12-6.
St. Bernard's will head out on the road to challenge Trinity at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. St. Bernard's is coming into the game with ten straight victories on the road, so Trinity is out to stop a squad with plenty of momentum. As for Ferndale, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Hoopa Valley at 7:30 p.m.
