Basketball Recap: Reedley Comes Up Short

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Reedley can now relate to. They took a hard 56-41 fall against the Coalinga Horned Toads on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Pirates can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 714th, while the Horned Toads are ranked 322nd).

Coalinga found their leader in sophomore Alikah Rafiu, who went 7-for-12 on her way to 21 points and three steals. What's more, Rafiu also posted a 83% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest she's achieved since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jaelyn Bourdeau, who almost dropped a double-double with 18 points and nine boards.

Reedley has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 10-17 record this season. As for Coalinga, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 24-5.

Reedley does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Coalinga, they will face off against Santa Ynez at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
