Softball Recap: Eaglecrest Beats Cherry Creek for Their Eighth Straight Victory

Eaglecrest had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it eight on Thursday. They blew past the Cherry Creek Bruins 17-6. 17 seems to be a good number for the Raptors as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Zaya Elliott was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Abby Files, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Lexi Barger also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.

Eaglecrest lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Eaglecrest's record is now 14-2. As for Cherry Creek, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-6.

Coming up, Eaglecrest will take on Cherokee Trail at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. As for Cherry Creek, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 13-2 win against Douglas County on the 19th.
