Baseball Recap: Dumont Extends Winning Streak to Five

Dumont waltzed into their contest on Friday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 6-5 W against the Hawthorne Bears.

Aidan Ramos looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Dumont is 3-1 when Ramos allows one or fewer hits, but 12-13-1 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Luke Sobek, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Dumont's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 11-14-1 when he doesn't). James Sutera was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Dumont now has a winning record of 15-14-1. As for Hawthorne, their loss dropped their record down to 7-16.

Dumont and Hawthorne could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps New Jersey Rankings. The Huskies (ranked 216th) will meet Ramsey (ranked 82nd) on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Hawthorne will square off against Wallkill Valley on Wednesday with a big rank disadvantage (315 vs. 101).
