Preview: Brentwood Spartans vs. Ellwood City Wolverine
Brentwood has been on the road for two straight, but on Monday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Ellwood City Wolverine at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Brentwood will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings (they are ranked 299th, while Ellwood City is ranked 113th).
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 55-27, which was the final score in Brentwood's tilt against Keystone Oaks on Thursday. Brentwood has struggled against Keystone Oaks recently, as their game on Thursday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Meanwhile, Ellwood City waltzed into Thursday's contest with two straight wins but they left with three. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 46-43 win over Hopewell.
Ellwood City's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Delaney Sturgeon led the charge by scoring 16 points. The contest was Sturgeon's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Kayla Jones, who scored 14 points.
The losses dropped Brentwood to 0-3 and Keystone Oaks to 3-2.
Brentwood came up short against Ellwood City in their previous matchup back in December of 2022, falling 48-35. Will Brentwood have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other basketball content.
