Preview: Sayre Redskins vs. Troy Trojans
Sayre has been on the road for three straight, but on Tuesday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Troy Trojans at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Sayre focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Tuesday.
Sayre's game was all tied up 17-17 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They fell 44-34 to Towanda. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Sayre in their matchups with Towanda: they've now lost five in a row.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Meghan Flynn, who scored 11 points along with 5 steals. Flynn is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Peyton Black was another key contributor, scoring 8 points along with 5 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Troy was fully in charge on Thursday, breezing past Canton 77-45 at home. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Troy.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Troy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kailyn Sterling, who scored 20 points along with 8 rebounds. That makes it two consecutive games in which Sterling has scored at least 25% of Troy's points. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Parks, who scored 17 points along with 9 rebounds.
Sayre bumped their record down to 0-3 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 22.0 points per game. As for Troy, their victory bumped their record up to 2-0.
Tuesday's matchup is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Sayre have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 44% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Troy struggles in that department as they've drained 43% of theirs this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out. Sayre suffered a grim 45-19 defeat to Troy when the teams last played back in December of 2022. Will Sayre have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other basketball content.
