The Frederick Golden Eagles are taking a road trip to challenge the Monarch Coyotes at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Frederick is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last six games.
On Friday, Frederick earned a 36-28 win over Poudre. The victory almost wasn't to be: the Golden Eagles were down 28-14 in the second quarter.
It was another big night for Sonny Delpizzo, who rushed for 172 yards and four scores while picking up 7.8 yards per carry, and also picked up 89 receiving yards. Preston Kissinger was another key player, throwing for 206 yards while completing 71.4% of his passes.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Frederick was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 215 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 159 rushing yards in six consecutive contests.

Frederick didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Cyle Rarden, Jovan Martinez, and Reno Digesualdo picked up one apiece. Rarden is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made five or more in each of the last three games he's played. Marllow McCoy was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making 12 total tackles (3.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, everything came up roses for Monarch against Greeley West on Thursday as the squad secured a 48-8 win. With the Coyotes ahead 34-0 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Monarch's win came from a few key players Frederick will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Malakhi Payne, who rushed for 126 yards and one TD on only 13 carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Nico Rizzello, who threw for 115 yards and one touchdown while completing 83.3% of his passes.
Frederick's record is now 6-2. As for Monarch, their record now sits at an identical 6-2.
Thursday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Frederick has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 213.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Monarch struggles in that department as they've been averaging 201.8 rushing yards. There's a good chance Thursday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Frederick and Monarch were neck-and-neck when the teams last played back in October of 2024, but Frederick came up empty-handed after a 21-20 defeat. Can the Golden Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
