Softball Recap: Pine Creek Drops Highest Score of Season Against Doherty

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Pine Creek). Everything went their way against the Doherty Spartans on Thursday as they made off with a 20-1 win. The Eagles have beaten the Spartans the last nine times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Spartans has come to flipping the script.

Kyleigh Croyle was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. Croyle was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three doubles and three RBI. Those three doubles gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kailani *Kai* Shideler, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in September of 2024. Makenzie *MJ* Eberly was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Pine Creek kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 21 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits every time they've taken the field this season.

Pine Creek's victory bumped their record up to 8-2. As for Doherty, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-7.

Coming up, Pine Creek will square off against Douglas County at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Huskies have averaged an impressive 6.8 runs per game this season. As for Doherty, they are taking a road trip to take on Pueblo Centennial at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
