Football Recap: Pojoaque Valley Starts Season with Win Against Crownpoint + How To Watch

Pojoaque Valley had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Crownpoint Eagles 54-0. That's more bragging rights for the Elks/Elkettes, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Joshua Gonzales had a dynamite game, rushing for 64 yards and three TDs on only seven carries, while also throwing for 226 yards and four touchdowns on only nine passes. Those 226 passing yards gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was D'Marcus Rodriguez, who gained 190 total yards and a touchdown.

Another reason for the win was Pojoaque Valley's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Joseph Garcia, Muziq Portis, and Jaziah Romero, who each picked up one sack apiece. Garcia was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making five total tackles (5.0 for loss).

Looking ahead, Pojoaque Valley will face off against Hot Springs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Crownpoint, they will take on Montezuma-Cortez at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
