Basketball Recap: San Marcos Takes a Loss

San Marcos suffered their biggest loss since January 10th on Saturday. They came up short against the Imperial Tigers, falling 48-28. The Knights were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Tigers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in November of 2021.

It was another big night for Nayeli Cardona, who almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine steals for Imperial. Cardona's afternoon made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Elynna Jimenez, who posted ten points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals.

San Marcos' loss dropped their record down to 17-9. As for Imperial, the win was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 21-4.

San Marcos and Imperial should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. San Marcos (ranked 295th) will meet Ramona (ranked 1275th) at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. San Marcos is looking to tack on another W to their seven-game streak on the road. Meanwhile, Imperial will take on Calexico at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday up 687 places (130 vs. 817).
